—— FAQ———

TRAVELING TO HONDURAS? Here’s EVERYTHING You Need to Know About the Measles Rules (Without the Boring Stuff)

(Based on the official decree + latest statements from Honduran authorities)

1. When does all this kick in?

A: Starting Monday, July 7, 2025; it’s official. Honduras will begin checking measles vaccination status at entry.

2. I’m Honduran – do I need to show proof of vaccination?

A: Only if you’re traveling with children under 10 years old. Kids aged 12 months to 10 years need a valid measles vaccination card.

3. I’m a foreign traveler: what’s required?

A: If you’re coming from one of the 24 countries on alert (FULL LIST BELOW), you gotta show proof of measles vaccination (MMR) upon arrival. No card? No worries! The Honduran government will have vaccine stations at airports and ports, so travelers can get vaccinated upon entry to avoid delays or being turned away.

4. My vaccine card is old/faded/written in pen is that okay?

A:

  • Yes, as long as the info is legible and read the details.

  • Also cool: a printout from your doctor or clinic, preferably with your name, the vaccine type (MMR), and dates.

5. Can I use a lab test (titer) instead of a vaccine card?

A: Yes, but it must be a PCR or IgM test dated within 80 hours before entering Honduras. That’s right. 80 hours max. It’s in the official decree.

6. Wait, why 80 hours? Isn’t that tight?

A: You bet! A lot of folks, especially from Canada, are finding it tricky to hit that window. But that’s the deal for now, unless they change it.

7. I already had my MMR as a kid but don’t have proof: What do I do?

A: you’ve options:

1. Get a titer test in time (within 80 hrs).

2. Roll up your sleeve and get vaccinated at the airport.

3. Ask your clinic for a signed proof of vaccination.

8. I can’t get a vaccine because of medical reasons : what now?

A: If you have a valid medical exemption (e.g., immunocompromised or on Rituximab therapy ( hope you can read me ) bring:

A signed letter from your doctor

A titer test if possible

They may ask for this to avoid giving you a live vaccine.

9. I’m just transiting through a country on the alert list. Does that count?

A: If you stayed in a measles alert country more than 12-24 hours, you may still be flagged. Try to bring docs showing your full travel route.

10. How long will these rules last?

A: For now, 2 weeks to 3 months, depending on when the Ministry of Health reaches its national vaccination target. Could be shorter… or stretch longer.

11. Where will vaccines be offered on arrival?

A: At official spots: airports, seaports, and border crossings. The Ministry of Health will have trained folks ready to vaccinate.
