From PADI Divemaster to Instructor (IDC)

Are you a PADI Divemaster or an Instructor with another agency? You’re eligible to enroll in the Instructor Development Course (IDC) if you:

  • Have logged at least 100 dives

  • Have been certified as an Open Water Diver for 6 months or more

This program prepares you to become a certified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

From Rescue Diver to PADI Divemaster or Open Water Scuba Instructor

Are you a Rescue Diver (or equivalent)? To begin your professional scuba training, you must hold a valid CPR and First Aid certification completed within the last 24 months.

Once certified, you’ll start building experience with 2–3 dives per day over 7–10 days, logging 40 dives before entering the Divemaster internship.

Plan for a minimum of 8 weeks to reach PADI Divemaster level.

Advanced Open Water to PADI Divemaster or Open Water Scuba Instructor

Already Advanced Open Water certified? Complete Rescue Diver + valid CPR/First Aid (within 24 months), log required dives, then begin your Divemaster internship — instructor training available after meeting PADI experience requirements.

Concise steps:

  • Required course: PADI Rescue Diver (+ CPR/First Aid).

  • Timeline: ~4 days for Rescue course, then 1–2 weeks (2–3 dives/day) to log 40 dives.

  • Internship: Begin Divemaster internship once you have 40 logged dives — total time to Divemaster ≈ 8 weeks.

  • Instructor path: Eligible for PADI Instructor training after meeting PADI experience/prerequisites; continue interning as a guide/assistant until then.
